He isn't dead, of course, but it serves as a reminder of the life he's lost all the same. If the jutsu were reversed and people returned to their times, whatever animates or restored him might also undo itself. It's a possibility he must at least privately face.

He holds the pokedex today because Meditite handed it to him, but his expression is distant and deeply thoughtful. The look of a man wondering whether or not birthdays are to be observed here or only reminders of a life lost.]

...How many years are there in a pokemon's life cycle? They're born so quickly and often I imagine that must mean they have short lifespans.

[There's no point in mentioning his birthday, and it would be inappropriate to speak of his death publicly where Naruto might hear of it. Still, his thoughts remain on the day.]

Are we expected to mark down the day of birth for pokemon hatched in front of us and celebrate them in some fashion in coming years?

Well yeah, that's why I said I would guess there is some variation among species. Because you are right, normal animals vary in that regard. But I honestly don't know for sure or if it's even parallel to the sorts of animals we have in our worlds. It's just one of those things, I guess. It might be better to ask one of the natives for a more definite answer.

[Well, okay, she did say he had trouble with smiling and basically implied that he is a stick in the mud. But she also said he's a genius. So that totally balances out to "nothing bad", yes.]

A few months now. Like...maybe four or fiveish? Something around there, I believe. So not a terribly long time but we do talk a lot so... there's that.
