[The camera flicks on to reveal a young man with eyes so pale lavender and missing pupils that it might appear as if his eyes are white and unmarked at first glance. There's a small frown on his lips, and his eyes squint in a curious determination.

Through observation and intuition, he's puzzled out the purpose and general function of the device well enough to activate it, but unfortunately it has...so far...not provided illumination over where he's woken or how. Waking up after death is no surprise--it's happened more than once before, though the last time it happened to him he hadn't been as certain of his own death when he lost consciousness as this time.

Waking here, however...is less...understandable.]

Explain to me where this place is and why I've been taken. Have I missed the end of the war? [That seems the most reasonable conclusion: otherwise he would have been brought back out to the battlefield, wouldn't he?]

[Now...even though he'd seen Tenten's age difference, to hear of someone from a time (most likely) before he was born still earns a pause. Just how was this possible? Some form of powerful time and place warping jutsu? Could this have something to do with the rampage of the Juubi?]

...The Third? [Of course. Seeking confirmation from her was pointless, she would hardly correct her statement to something more possible, would she? Such a possibility was...highly doubtful of her. Instead of waiting for a confirmation, then, he simply addressed her question.] Yes. The five great nations fight together in the Fourth war. [War was, of course, still war, but perhaps that knowledge would provide a Konoha-nin such as herself with some comfort all the same.]

Yes. I...didn't see the end of it before coming here, though.

[ But so far it seems like Konoha came out okay. And at least Kakashi survived, so...There's very real surprise on Rin's face at the thought of the five great nations fighting together. Against one another wouldn't have given her any pause.

But together, side by side? After all the wars and fighting? It was hard to picture. Not unpleasant, except...if they'd all banded together, the threat must have been astronomical, to say the least. ] You must be facing something...extreme, if that's the case.

[ She hopes it turns out okay. Whether or not she knows these people from the future, it was Konoha she died for, and she will never not want Konoha to succeed. ]

[Whether that implied she died in the war before arriving here or not isn't certain. It might, but it also might be an expression of her distress over the news of a fourth war.

While her observation is not directly a question, he still nods.] The five great nations were already allies before this war, however. [Of course the peace had been tenuous at best. It truly had required a dire threat to unite them as they were now.

Rin Nohara? Neither her first nor last name sounds familiar to him. If Nohara is a clan, it's one small enough he's never noticed it before. If instead it's a family, it's possible the line was wiped out completely in the war. Or...it might be that no one from it chose to join the academy in the years he attended.]

You're correct. However, I was born after the Third war concluded. [Which is to say: he doesn't expect her to recognize him.]

So that's how it ended...I see. Thanks for telling me that much.

[ It's...nice to hear. Even if it's strange to think of. Surely if they're allies, there might be...less. Less death, less fighting - not none, because of the nature of being a ninja, but it's...nice. All the same.

She nods, after a moment. ] So we're fairly far apart.

[ There's a brief debate, but she might as well try to give him more of a benchmark for whom she is, if she's telling him at all. ]

[Indeed, there is less. Or there was, until the Akatsuki and the new war...but then, so long as there is war and suffering there will always be those like the Akatsuki who rise up and cause more war. Without someone to break that cycle, it will only cycle on through eternity.]

I believe so. [Perhaps not as far as she may wish to believe, however. There are only seventeen years between the Third and Fourth wars, after all. Depending on when she hails from in the war, they may only be separated by half a generation.

The comment on her sensei earns a surprised expression and pause. Minato Namikaze the Fourth Hokage? Surely, if his title was also The Yellow Flash. Given the timing, it's preposterous to assume it could be anyone else.

That is...quite interesting indeed. A student of the Fourth Hokage himself.]

Well, that at least gives you a little to go off of - I don't think I'm ever going to be famous enough to be a name people recognize!

[ That...sounds vague enough. Right? If Obito's reading this, he definitely won't get "because I died" from that. It sounds humble and noncommittal, right? ]

Ah, and I'm travelling with Tsunade-sama right now. I think she might be more your time than mine, no?

[He smiles and shakes his head at that, grim and knowing.] Perhaps not, but to be a name that's remembered isn't always a goal worth seeking. [He can't say if his name is one that will be remembered, but as one known well it brought him mostly hardship.] In the end, it's the shinobi whose names won't be remembered that often do the most to shape those around them, and therefore the world. [Although...Naruto is no longer one who won't be remembered, had he always been that his words would never have gotten through to Neji and changed his life as they did.

The subject change earns a surprised expression, though.] The fifth hokage?

Not really, no. The name of the village is more important.

[ By which she means the village is more important than any singular shinobi. She's from the previous war, though, and gave her life to that ideal. It's shaped her. ]

Yes. She arrived at the same time as me, so we decided to stick together.

The village is a name that will endure beyond any of ours, that much is true.

[His loyalty, although strong toward the village, was stronger still to singular shinobi. A life without war shaped those ideals.]

It sounds as if you are in good company, then. The fifth hokage is a remarkable woman and kunoichi.

She is! I'm learning a lot just from speaking with her.

I imagine that you would. You've chosen one of the best traveling partners, I would think.

It might be more accurate to say we've chosen one another - at least, she didn't have any problems with staying together, and told me to stick close.
