[The camera flicks on to reveal a young man with eyes so pale lavender and missing pupils that it might appear as if his eyes are white and unmarked at first glance. There's a small frown on his lips, and his eyes squint in a curious determination.

Through observation and intuition, he's puzzled out the purpose and general function of the device well enough to activate it, but unfortunately it has...so far...not provided illumination over where he's woken or how. Waking up after death is no surprise--it's happened more than once before, though the last time it happened to him he hadn't been as certain of his own death when he lost consciousness as this time.

Waking here, however...is less...understandable.]

Explain to me where this place is and why I've been taken. Have I missed the end of the war? [That seems the most reasonable conclusion: otherwise he would have been brought back out to the battlefield, wouldn't he?]

[Huff. Neji why you gotta bring logic into this?]

Well do you remember me going missing at all? I've been here three months already. No wait, what do you even remember before coming here, the war right?

I remember being with Bee, Kakashi-sensei an Bushy-brow-sensei were there too, and we were fighting that fake Madara.

[...So it sounds as if he were taken a few hours before Neji's memories end. It's impossible to say how long he's been kept in stasis and the thought that he may have been taken even before Neji's death is a disturbing one.]

Then it's possible what memories I have of you from that point onward may simply be implanted.

Why would they be implanted?

What memories of me, anyway.

To answer that, it would be helpful to know why and how we were brought here.

[In other words, it wouldn't be the weirdest part.]

Those of you that persist beyond the point where you've described.

Well, I dunno or how it happened. We're not the only ones though, there's loads of people here from all these other worlds we don't even know about. There's even ponies and aliens that got brought here, aliens Neji.

Have you talked to Tenten or Sasuke yet? They're the ones that've been here the longest.

[Animals were brought here as well? He has witnessed people who lacked the knowledge of shinobi...but another world entirely? Surely there are more reasonable answers. If this is the far-flung future, any number of worlds could have existed between the battle of the Juubi and now. The five nations may have become a lost part of history like the chaos before the Sage of Six Paths.

...Hmph. Sasuke. He knows Naruto well enough not to bother commenting on the Uchiha, although he's certain the blond must be thrilled to have the opportunity to interact with a version of his wayward friend who won't attempt to kill him on sight. In that way, he does feel a certain amount of...relief for him. Regrettable as it is that Tenten has been dragged into the delusion that Sasuke's actions might be averted, an opportunity such as this is the sort that Naruto must have dreamt of.]

...I've already spoken with Tenten. I understand that Shino is also here? [And that's about all, including Naruto, that he knows of his teammates here. Three from the war and two from before. He does wonder whether Shino might come from a point after himself.]

Yeah! Shino and Sakura-chan, apart from you an' me they're the only other two here who actually know what's been going on with the war and stuff.

[Some are dead and it can't be helped, but dealing with those such as Sasuke and Tenten that had missed out on years was hard at first.]

Sakura is also here, then? [It is a shame that neither her strength nor her medical ninjutsu will be available here. Still, a Sakura from the present who might be reasoned with is far preferable to a fawning child simpering over the young Uchiha.]

How long have they been here? [It's pointless to ask Naruto when they were from, because if they come from afterward he would have no way to describe or identify the time. Neji will simply have to ask them himself.]

Shino got here the same time as me, almost four months ago. Sakura-chan a little after.. it was about two months ago, I think.

I see. [As it seems he comes from beyond Naruto's time, and there's no telling that anyone at all comes from after his own...there seems little more point in discussing matters of home. Even if he wished to, Naruto would be of no help in dealing with Tenten or the missing chakra.

...Although...one pertinent question does remain.]

Do you remain in contact with the fox within you? [Blunt and possibly intrusive question? Yes. But he feels this is an important question to ask, even if the lack of chakra and his apparent recent harmony with the beast means there should be no threat.

That, and he is curious whether the sealing jutsu is affected by whatever is draining them of chakra.]

[There's a pause before he answers. Funny- for something that was with him his entire life, he hadn't even thought about it for a while.]

Not since coming here, no. He's not there- I can't talk to him, feel his chakra, nothing.

[He nods at that. It's not a surprise, if they've gone so out of their way to divert chakra and weapons, a rampaging bijuu would also have to be out of the question.

It did make him wonder whether the creature itself was being used for power as well, or simply sealed away.]

So then this place has sealed the fox away as well. Perhaps to the same purpose it's diverting chakra toward. [Because removing it from Naruto completely was apparently out of the question, if he understood the past situation with the Kazekage correctly.]

Yeah, nobody knows what it is doin' it though.

[And if they don't know after months, years even, he reckons they won't find out any time soon.]

So where are ya anyway? Is anyone gonna come meet up with you or what?

[Well, in those months and years, did they have a genius like Neji Hyuga around with nothing better to do?

Neji gives a tiny gesture that might be a shrug.] I understand I'm in New Bark Town. I've not heard from anyone that they are. [Because Tenten got angry and hung up on him.]

[Yeah- he's gonna ask about her.]

What about Tenten, she's your team-mate ain't she?

We're going back to Violet though, you can come hang out with us if you want.

[...Not the best subject to bring up, but then one might argue bringing up the nine tails was not the most pleasant one to bring up to Naruto. So.]

Her memory of myself ends with the Chuunin tournament. [So. Naruto. You can imagine what sort of image she has of him, right? ~~You remember that far back with things that don't involve Sasuke, right?~~] And where is Violet? Who are 'we'?

Oh-- yeah she probably thinks you're still a jerk, huh? [Putting it bluntly.]

And Violet y'know? Violet City! I'm with Sakura-chan, and my parents.

At the time she knew me, I was. [He has no problem with bluntness. He expects nothing less from Naruto.

He probably shouldn't have expected more than Naruto assuming map-awareness of him, though.]

Where is Violet City, Naruto? [He notes the mention of parents, but without any frame of reference to those the knowledge means little other than as a vague appreciation for Naruto's emotional welfare. After all, considering his own presence, death seems no barrier to his place.]

It's uh-- well you've got a map somewhere in your bag, take it out. Cherrygrove's west of you, then you've gotta go north.

[Does he? He hadn't looked.]

What travel time is there between New Bark and Violet? [It's not that he particularly wants or doesn't want to go where Naruto and Sakura are, it's that he has no better goal yet, and should danger arise being together is wiser than being scattered without chakra.]

It's about ten days or so, on foot. Less than a day if you fly, though.

Which would require a flight-capable creature.

[Don't give him that look.]
